Carnivorous plants use insects to supplement their diet because all the nutrients they need are not found in the soil. HOW TO:
1) Rehydrate freeze-dried mealworms with 1-2 drops of water. 2) A mealworm 1/3 the size of the trap is all that is needed. (If the worm is too large, the trap will die. 3) Place mealworm gently in the trap, use tongs or a skewer to gently stimulate the hairs inside. 4) Make sure that the trap can close and seal completely. You can use your fingers to help seal the trap [very gently] after it is closed. If it does not seal, it will open again after 24 hours without having digested the worm. 5) One feeding per week is often enough. If you have a larger plant, such as a pitcher plant, you may need to feed more often.

Carnivorous plants use insects to supplement their diet because all the nutrients they need are not found in the soil. You can use different fertilizers in lieu of live insects, though they will give your plants the most benefits. If your carnivorous plant is indoors, it is not always easy to keep live insects indoors. Dried mealworms are a perfect, no mess alternative for feeding your carnivorous plants. Please refer to the instructions below to properly feed your plant. Depending on the size of your plant, you may need to cut the mealworms before feeding. Carnivorous plants can live off a wide variety of worms, insects, and spiders. NOTE: These mealworms can also be fed to hedgehogs, birds, fish, squirrels, mice, snakes, chickens, and some reptiles. Please research your pets dietary requirements before offering new foods.
TIPS: Freeze-dried mealworms make feeding your plants much easier. You may find that feeding a Venus flytrap a dead mealworm is difficult. The following are some tips from the pros on how to do this correctly:
