Description

I've purchased a HUGE collection of vintage fireworks ephemera that was associated with a Danville, Illinois area historical fireworks manufacturer/display company. They were in business since the early 1900's; coming from Italy and bringing their expertise to the U.S. They started out as the Illinois Fireworks Display Company; branched into the World Fireworks Display Company; and purchased and ran the Liberty Fireworks Company that originated in Franklin Park/Maywood, Illinois. There are letterheads/letters/correspondence from many places in the United States and around the world. These date back to the 1920's up into the 1970's. World Fireworks discontinued operations in the 1950's; Liberty Fireworks in the 1970's; and finally the Illinois Fireworks in the early 1990's. There are catalogs; letterheads; advertisements; some labels; and other ephemera from over the years. Just send an email to ask if there is a certain area; industry; or other specific interest that may be in the collection...otherwise, just keep watching my auctions for neat items from the collection.....
This particular auction is for
a vintage western union telegram that was sent by:
"L.J. WYLIE"
. The telegram is dated 1938 and is signed by L.J. Wylie; who was the president  of the Decatur Baseball Club; The Commodores. It appears that the World Fireworks Company from Danville, Illinois asked Mr. Wylie to give them a recommendation to the Indianapolis Indians baseball club for fireworks programs they did for his team. The telegram was sent to Leo T. Miller of the Indianapolis Baseball Club; and then Mr. Wylie added a signed note and sent it to the World Fireworks Company; and it was found among their records. This three eye league (3 I -- III) league team was know as the Commodores; but were nicknamed "The Commies". This has
surface wear and damage; soiling/staining; creases/tears; writing; other blemishes and damage; etc.
