Here for sale is a handmade Appalachian dulcimer.
As you might notice, my store is called "Jack's Guitarcheology" and not "Jack's Dulcimercheology," mainly because it doesn't make any sense, but also because I am WAY out of my wheel house on this one. I haven't had a dulcimer lesson since 4th grade. (
I was more of a band kid, French Horn to be exact.
)
I recently stumbled across the estate sale of a member of the "Grand Ole Dulcimer Club" here in Nashville. I purchased 5 or 6 dulcimers because I could tell they were hand made and someone put a lot of love into them. Through my knowledge of general luthiery, I could tell these were well made and of good materials. I knew they had a lot of music left to make.
This one was certainly objectively the nicest of the group. Double neck, flame maple fretboards. Excellent craftsmanship, and next level tone woods. I suspect this one was not made locally, and was maybe made by a professional Dulcimer company. It just seems to be a cut above the rest of the ones I got, so I get the feeling it was made by professional luthiers rather than hobbyists. Even I, who does not play the Dulcimer very well, am in awe of this thing.
