Handmade 5-String Dulcimer-Paul Pyle #444-Tennessee-With Carrying Sack

Offered is this handmade wooden five-string dulcimer with four small heart-shaped cutouts. It was, made by Paul Pyle of Tennessee, who has labeled the end with his name and address as well as marked it on the inside with his name and the number 444 in two places (see photos #10 & #11). Someone has attached 10 small bits of paper, numbered 1-10, as shown; I don't know if this was done by the maker or by a previous owner. The piece is not marked with a date so I don't know when it was made. Also included is a cloth carrying sack (see last photo).
The dulcimer is approx. 36" long, about 7 1/2" wide and just over 3" thick. It is in good condition. There is no major damage to the wood, although there are a few small nicks, dents, etc. The strings appear undamaged. The varnished finish on the body is somewhat inconsistent; I don't know if this is due to wear or if it was always that way. The cloth carrying sack has no damage.
I do not play the instrument so I can't judge the quality of the sound, if it is tune, etc.
