For sale today is a gorgeous, vintage feather fan of goose feathers. This is Oriental and authentic, presumably of Chinese ethnicity. My fan measures 16” from feather to end of handle. It is 11” wide. Following this is a nice little piece on when fans became popular and symbols of wisdom and power!!. Enjoy!
“Before the introduction of the electrical fan, the hand held fan were essential household items. Poorer families would use the palm leave fan, while the wealth ones had goose feather fans.
Goose feather fans have been associated with Zhu Ge Liang, the strategist of the San Guo period around 200AD. Since then, the goose feather fan took on also as a symbol of wisdom and power. There is the Chinese proverb “waving the goose feather fan” about the person who is the brain behind the show, the hand behind puppet.”
